Role-Play Points
Role-Play Points (RPP) are awarded to recognize and encourage strong, immersive role-play within the world of Death's Omen. They are not granted for winning fights, accumulating wealth, or mechanical success, but for how well a character is portrayed and integrated into the living world.
RPP may be awarded by staff through observation, review, or recommendation.
What Role-Play Points Reward
Role-Play Points are awarded for role-play that enhances the shared story of the game, including (but not limited to) the following:
🎭 Consistent Character Portrayal
- Staying true to your character's background, culture, beliefs, and personality
- Playing strengths and flaws convincingly
- Making decisions based on character knowledge, not player knowledge
Characters who remain believable even when it is inconvenient are highly valued.
🧠 Thoughtful Role-Play Decisions
- Choosing in-character consequences over optimal outcomes
- Accepting loss, failure, or hardship when it makes narrative sense
- Allowing actions to have lasting emotional or social impact
Risk taken for story is often more meaningful than success.
🌍 World Immersion & Lore Awareness
- Demonstrating understanding of the setting's cultures, politics, faiths, and customs
- Using in-world logic, terminology, and social norms
- Respecting the tone and themes of Death's Omen
You do not need encyclopedic knowledge—only sincere engagement.
🗣️ Quality Interaction with Others
- Creating meaningful scenes for other players
- Engaging NPCs as people, not obstacles
- Elevating group role-play rather than dominating it
Good role-play is collaborative, not performative.
📜 Long-Term Story Development
- Developing personal arcs over time
- Allowing characters to change due to events and experiences
- Contributing to ongoing plots or regional narratives
Slow, organic growth is preferred over sudden transformations.
⚖️ Playing Flaws, Limits, and Consequences
- Portraying fear, doubt, bias, or moral conflict
- Accepting social, legal, or personal fallout from actions
- Avoiding "always competent" or "always correct" portrayals
Flawed characters feel real—and memorable.
🧩 Creative Role-Play Contributions
- Inventive but setting-appropriate dialogue or behavior
- Unique personal rituals, habits, or mannerisms
- Finding role-play opportunities in everyday situations
Creativity should enhance immersion, not break it.
🚫 What Role-Play Points Are NOT Awarded For
Role-Play Points are not granted for:
- Grinding role-play solely to farm rewards
- Mechanical success (combat wins, wealth, skill gain)
- Excessive verbosity without substance
- OOC behavior disguised as IC justification
- Forcing plots or outcomes on other players
Quality always outweighs quantity.
Role-Play Points are awarded at staff discretion and may not be immediate. Some of the most impactful role-play is recognized only after time and reflection.
Focus on telling honest, grounded stories within the world—and the rewards will follow naturally.
