Dwarves

'By Vragmir's hammer, dwarves endure.'

Dwarves

Overview

In Athera, dwarvenkind is divided into four distinct forged lineages, each shaped by the lands and labors that define them. Stoneforged, are the classic mountain folk - unyielding builders, master smiths, and stalwart warriors who form the backbone of dwarven society. Sunforged hail from richer holds and deep vaults heavy with wealth; they prize trade, jewels, and rare ores, and are known for their influence in commerce as much as their skill at the forge. Ashforged Dwarves are grim and often mistrusted, their lineage marked by taint, ruin, or long exposure to Umbramor, giving rise to hardened survivors who walk the edge of dwarven society. In the far north dwell the Frostforged, stoic and ice-hardened clans forged by cold and scarcity, whose resilience and discipline rival the harsh climates they call home.

Dwarves are a proud and ancient people, long-lived and enduring, bound to stone, metal, and tradition. They are renowned for unmatched craftsmanship, carving vast underground halls and forging weapons, armour, and works of art that few other races can rival. Dwarves prize discipline, patience, and skill honed through labor, believing that nothing of worth is created without effort. Their holds are places of deep memory, where history is etched into stone and the deeds of ancestors are spoken with reverence.

Though often perceived as stern or insular by outsiders, Dwarves are fiercely loyal to clan and oath, standing unbroken against war, ruin, and the slow erosion of time. In battle they favour close ranks and brutal efficiency, fighting with axe, hammer, and shield, trusting endurance over speed. In peace they are builders, miners, and traders, shaping not only their own realms but the foundations of others. To earn a Dwarf's friendship is to gain an ally of iron resolve, but to earn their enmity is to invite a grudge remembered as long as stone endures.

  • Eyes: Dwarven eyes are intense and steady, reflecting a life spent in dim halls and forge-light. Common colors include deep brown, iron-grey, amber, and gold, with Frostforged sometimes bearing pale blue or steel-hued eyes. Among Ashforged, eyes may appear darkened or dulled, carrying a hardened, watchful gaze shaped by survival rather than comfort.

Roleplaying

When roleplaying a dwarf, emphasize discipline, faith, and duty to clan and hold. Dwarves in Athera are deeply religious, viewing craft, war, and law as sacred callings shaped by the will of their gods. They value order, tradition, and proven skill, speaking plainly and honouring oaths as binding law. Loyalty is given slowly but held fiercely, and every dwarf-smith or warrior alike, is expected to stand ready to defend their people.
