Calendar
The following calendar reflects the reckoning used by the Age of Kings of Solamir. While many cultures and races mark the passage of time differently, for the sake of clarity and consistency the TIME command reports dates using this shared calendar.
Months of the Year
The year is divided into twelve months of thirty days each, arranged by season as follows:
- Ormz · Liton · Mortis
- Zephyr · Aelor · Seyra
- Faeron · Kyros · Vrag
- Belor · Russen · Darkethis
Liton is the first month of the year.
Ormz is the final month.
To reconcile the twelve-month calendar with the solar year, a number of intercalary feastdays are observed. These days do not belong to any month and instead occur between them, marking cosmic thresholds such as equinoxes, solstices, and the turning of the year. In addition, leap years include a rare extra feastday.
Note on Usage: In general conversation, the names of feastdays are not capitalized, while the names of proper holidays are.
FEASTDAYS (INTERCALARY)
Ulticar
The feastday of Ulticar closes the old year. Dedicated to Vorundex, it is a solemn time of judgement, reckoning, and final accounting. Deeds of the past year are weighed, debts remembered, and the dead honored. Ulticar is not celebratory in nature, and many observe it in silence or prayer.
Primaris
Primaris marks the opening of the new year. Sacred to Anu and Nara, it is a day of renewal, light, and sanctioned continuation. Feasting, reconciliation, and communal rites are common, and many regard Primaris as the moment the world is permitted to begin again.
Omenfall (Leap Years Only)
Observed only in leap years, Omenfall is a day of unease and portent. Dreams are said to carry meaning, omens are watched closely, and seers speak with caution. Many believe the future presses briefly against the present on this day, though no single Eternal openly claims dominion over it.
Verdance
The spring equinox is marked by Verdance, a feastday of renewal, fertility, and awakening life. Fields are blessed, seeds sown, and rites of growth observed in honor of Aelora. Verdance is widely celebrated and associated with hope and new beginnings.
Ascendance
The midsummer solstice is marked by Ascendance, the day when mortal strength and will stand at their height. Sacred to Kyte, Vragmir, and Belial, it is a time of trials, contests, forging, and great oaths. Ascendance also holds deep theological significance, reminding mortals that transcendence beyond mortal limits is possible, though never guaranteed.
Goldwane
The autumn equinox is marked by Goldwane, a feastday of waning plenty and measured fortune. Harvests are counted, contracts reviewed, and excess tempered by foresight. Dedicated to Faerion, Russa, Ormaz, and Seyth, Goldwane emphasizes balance, wisdom, and restraint as the year turns toward its decline.
HOLIDAYS AND OBSERVANCES
In addition to the intercalary feastdays, a number of culturally and spiritually significant holidays are observed on fixed calendar dates. These days occur within the normal flow of months and do not interrupt the passage of time.
Illume
A day sacred to Liteon, Illume is devoted to truth, order, and the reaffirmation of law. Oaths are renewed, proclamations made, and falsehood is believed to carry greater consequence. Many cities hold public readings or vigils of light.
Mawdreth
Mawdreth is a day of deathly unrest and ill fortune. Associated with Mortael, it is widely feared. Many believe the dead stir, violence rises, and ill deeds committed on Mawdreth echo longer than usual. Most avoid travel or risky endeavors.
Greenwake
Greenwake marks the stirring of summer and the full awakening of the land. Fires are lit at dusk, greenery adorns homes, and ancient rites honoring Faerion and the living world are observed. Its origins are believed to predate the cities themselves.
Hearthmas
Hearthmas is a midsummer festival of warmth, survival, and shared sustenance. Bread is baked from the first grain, fires are kept lit, and communal meals are shared in gratitude to Anu and Nara. In many realms, rulers offer bread publicly on behalf of their people.
Khagaros (The Bloodcall)
Khagaros is a feared martial observance associated with Belial. Duels, musters, and rites of blood and iron are common, and many cultures brace for unrest. Though rarely celebrated openly, its presence is widely acknowledged.
Noctyra (The Darkening)
Noctyra is a night of shadow and silence, sacred to Darketh. Lights are extinguished, voices lowered, and the boundary between flesh and shadow is believed to thin. Secrets are whispered, the dead remembered, and few dare to ignore its observance.
Lorewake
Lorewake is a winter observance devoted to Ormaz. Stories are told, riddles exchanged, and old knowledge brought forth from memory and text alike. It is a quiet but respected day, especially among scholars, bards, and elders.
